Industry Reports and Charts

The items on the left hand navigation pane lead to the Industry Employment Profiles. These profiles contain user-selectable charts and tables that present industry employment data for broad industries (ANZSIC 1 digit) and specific industries (ANZSIC 3 digit) in Excel spreadsheets.  Users can copy and paste the information graphics easily for use in their own presentations and reports. The charts and tables include data on historical and projected employment growth, gender and FT/PT employment share, employment by region and occupation, workforce ageing and workforce characteristics such as earnings and educational profile.

DEEWR Employment Projections - 2011

Each year, DEEWR produces employment projections by industry, occupation and region for the following five years, the latest being the five years to 2015-16. These projections are presented as an annual growth rate over the five year period. DEEWR projections are based in part on the Monash model developed by the Centre of Policy Studies at Monash University and Access Economics projections, but also take account of recent employment trends and DEEWR intelligence on industry developments. The projections are designed to provide a guide to the future direction of industry, occupation and regional labour markets and do not reflect the impact of unanticipated economic shocks or major policy initiatives. An analysis of the performance of previous industry projections has shown that aside from unforeseeable events such as natural disasters and the Global Financial Crisis, the DEEWR projections have been a good indicator of future employment growth..

The projections are anchored to Treasury employment forecasts and are initially developed for the 19 major industry groups. These are then cascaded down to 214 industry sectors, each of which are individually analysed. Once the industry projections are finalised, they are used as the basis for projections for 353 individual occupations and 61 Labour Force Regions. These projections are produced using data from the ABS Labour Force Survey on the industry share of each region and occupation. The regional employment projections also take account of population growth, prospective demographic changes and the mix of industries in the region.
