Opening the Excel Sheet

Prior to the Excel workbooks opening, you will receive a warning message in relation to Excel macros. Choose 'Enable Macros' in response to the message and the workbook will continue to open.

Changing Macro Security Levels

If the spreadsheet does not operate properly you may need to change the Macro Security Level.  In Excel version up to and including Excel 2003, simply choose the menu options, Tools, Macro, Security and then click on the radio button entitled 'Medium'.  For Excel 2007 you will need to click on the Ribbon Button entitled 'Security' and choose 'Medium'.

Once the Excel spreadsheet is opened, click on the down arrow on the right side of the drop down box and make a selection according to the display.

Some of the Excel sheets contain only the 19 broad industries, while others have two 'drop down' list boxes which allow users to 'drill down' into data on specific industries.

The data has been arranged into the following broad groupings. Click on any of the five links to go to the relevant groupings of the spreadsheets.

Labour Market Region Data

Employment and unemployment estimates for DEEWR Labour Market Regions are derived from data for ABS Labour Force Regions. Where only part of a Labour Force Region lies within the Labour Market Region, employment and unemployment data are apportioned on the basis of the proportion of the labour force in the Labour Market Region as reported in the 2006 Census.

This assumes that employment and unemployment are both distributed in this pattern across the ABS Labour Force Region.  For some regions (Tasmania and the Northern Territory) no apportionment is needed, and for others such as Sydney and Adelaide the impact is marginal.  There are, however, six regions where this apportionment may give rise to reliability concerns: Northern, Southern and Western New South Wales and Northern, Central and Southern Queensland.

In the case of industry employment, this apportionment is based instead on the distribution of employment in the particular industry in the 2006 Census.

It is important to note that a data update is undertaken quarterly to update SkillsInfo with the latest Labour Force data.

The details of data sources only related to content which is loaded directly onto SkillsInfo any data sources accessed through links will have to be accessed off individual websites.
