The Census 2006 Regional Profiles on this page are based on place of work, reflecting the primary focus of SkillsInfo on where the jobs are, the mix of employment opportunities available and the skill needs of regions. Other regional profiles based on place of usual residence or place of enumeration (ie where people were actually counted on Census night) are available through links on the left hand navigation menu.
In particular, regional profiles dealing with industry and occupational growth over the five year period between the 2001 Census and the 2006 Census are based on place of enumeration (due to 2001 data availability) and can be accessed from this link:
The regional structure used in the profiles is based on the DEEWR administrative areas called Labour Market Regions (LMRs) and Employment Service Areas (ESAs) that have applied to employment service contracts since July 2009. Click here for more information on these regions.
More information about Census data quality issues and the limitations of Census data can be found in the ABS Census Data Quality Statement.
Each of the following profiles is an Excel-based tool that examines aspects of national, State/Territory and regional labour markets using Census data in graphical format. These files all use macros to process and display their data - macros must be enabled within your Microsoft Excel security settings for these profiles to work.
